Praxis is creating a future where every surface — every deck, wing, wall and canopy — becomes an intelligent energy system, from integrated solar for the marine industry today, through to a future with EVs that charge as they drive, ocean-top solar farms and fencing that power offices and homes.
With Praxis technology, solar is set to become the world’s most powerful and mobile sustainable energy solution.
Drawing inspiration from nature’s approach to capturing solar energy, Praxis is fast-tracking the world’s journey to Net Zero by unlocking new possibilities for solar power.
Praxis powers the future of sustainable energy, first across the waters — and soon over land — by embedding lightweight, flexible solar into the structure of the things we move with and use every day.
In 2008, Cameron Donaldson — a sustainably-minded advanced composites specialist from Adelaide, Australia — discovered a way to produce a new type of clear nano-composite material, and filed the intellectual property that would become Praxis’ nano-composite solar technology.
At the time, the solar industry was still bolting rigid glass panels onto surfaces never designed to carry them. His innovation was highly transparent, malleable to any form, and extremely light — yet so strong it could be walked upon.
Recognising the potential in combination with solar capture, Cameron and his sister Katie Donaldson co-founded Praxis to develop the technology and transform the use of solar energy globally.
Eighteen years of research, refinement and real-world validation followed — a similar timescale to foundational innovations such as Gore-Tex and carbon fibre. Praxis launched in 2017 not as a startup finding its feet, but as a mature technology ready for the world’s most demanding customers. They recognised it immediately.
Since co-founding Praxis with her brother Cameron Donaldson in 2017, Katie has brought a rare blend of technical expertise and design acumen to consistently drive the business forward. Katie guides Praxis with precision and innovation to deliver seamlessly integrated solar into everyday structures, drawing upon her background in interior architecture. Before Praxis, Katie worked on major architectural projects and in composite manufacturing, honing her expertise in design thinking and materials technology, and holds credentials in Strategic Business Management and Innovation from Harvard Extension School. Katie’s design-led vision is a connective force, ensuring Praxis’ technology elevates the aesthetic and functional potential of every surface.
The visionary brain behind Praxis’ technology, Cameron is an expert in advanced composites and materials engineering, with over two decades of hands-on experience spanning naval architecture, marine engineering and innovative manufacturing. As co-founder and CTO of Praxis, he leads the development of groundbreaking solar technology, creating the world’s lightest, strongest solar panels that integrate seamlessly into structures across air, land, ocean and even space. Before Praxis, Cameron directed composite engineering projects and led marine manufacturing businesses. His practical expertise and pioneering approach drive Praxis’ mission to expand solar’s reach through cutting-edge materials science and engineering.
